Quinci Leighton, an elementary education major at Wichita State University displays a large Bullsnake that was just collected from the wild on her grandparents southern Kansas ranch. Quinci has been interested in herpetology and attending herpetological field trips since she was a preschooler. Her father, a farmer and rancher, became interested in herpetology while in elementary school and passed that interested on to Quinci. Many farmers and ranchers realize that animals such as the Bullsnake can save them thousands of dollars by consuming countless numbers of mice and rats. Thus, these farmers and ranchers often invite memebers of the Kansas Herpetological Society to conduct surveys on their land to determine what species are present.
