We left for Florida on Sunday, 1 January 2017, and what a great way to start the NEW YEAR!

We will be spending some time working with our friend Dexter and students from Friends University as they explore areas along The Forgotten Coast and do biological research. Hopefully that will include a trip to St. Vincent Island.

After Dexter and his group returns to Wichita we will move on to Apalachicola, Florida where we will spend about a week at a Bed and Breakfast. The link below tells a little about the historic Bed and Breakfast.

(I think you will have to cut and paste the link to get the video to play)

We will be doing at least one photo shoot with a couple that I met while in Florida in 2014, and we will also be spending a lot of time visiting a variety of places, taking more photos, and doing some metal detecting.

Updates will be posted from time to time at this site.

PLEASE DO NOT POST ANYTHING ON FACEBOOK ABOUT THIS TRIP BEFORE WE RETURN LATER IN JANUARY.

NOTICE...

As of 12 January 2017 I have not posted anything new in regard to photos at this site. Since leaving the Buffer Preserve we do not have very good Internet service, so I will probably not post more photos and updates until Suzanne and I return home in about a week to then days.

9 JANUARY 2017...

Today was our day on St. Vincent Island! It was cold early this morning, and we had a few issues that slowed us up some. However, we came up with some interesting species and had a great time. Some of the photos from the day have been posted at this site.

Looking forward to a day on the river tomorrow and then some time at St. George Island. The time that Suzanne and I have been spending with the crew from Friends University has been some of the most enjoyable time for us in quite sometime! Some really pleasant students and staff to be around, and those that have assisted us from different agencies in Florida have bee super as well.

LIFE IS GOOD!

8 JANUARY 2017...

The day got off to a rather cold start weather wise, but the sun was out and it warmed to the upper 40's by afternoon. The cooler than usual temperatures did limit the number of herps observed today, but we did see quite a number of bird species and a few mammal species.

We are off to St. Vincent Island in the morning, and since we leave before sunrise it is about time for this old man to head off to bed. More photos and more information will be posted later.

7 JANUARY 2017...

After an afternoon temperature that came close to 80 degrees F. yesterday and thunderstorms and rain last night we woke up to a temperature in the mid to low 30's on this Saturday along The Forgotten Coast! However, everyone made the best of it and some even did some searching for new species of plants and animals.

Some time was spent in Apalachicola this afternoon. Suzanne and I then went to Port St. Joe to enjoy a pizza and beer at the famous "Mama Joe's" pizza place.

More photos have now been posted , and we are looking forward to another exciting day tomorrow.
